Another Thanksgiving Day science tidbit from yours truly.
Dinos like T-rex share a common ancestor with modern birds. We know this thanks to many pieces of fossil evidence, one of which you may fight over at your Thanksgiving Day table!
The turkey wishbone (above left) and dinosaur wishbones (above right) are very similar structures with similar anatomical function.
Of course now all I can picture is two teenage velociraptors fighting over who gets to break it after a meal.

To my knowledge the avian furcula aids in flight (its precise function seems to be a topic of debate), so it’s worth noting that the furculae in non-avian theropods likely served an entirely different purpose.
